Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions we hear most often from clients, relatives and referrers.
Who is Darna Care for?
For people aged 16 and over with intellectual, mental health and/or social difficulties who benefit from support to take an active part in society again. The GroeiHuis is for young people aged 15 to 18. For outreach support to young people under 16, we are happy to discuss what is appropriate.
What is the difference between outreach support, sheltered living and WLZ living?
Outreach support takes place at home or in your own environment, at agreed times. Sheltered living, such as in the GroeiHuis, means that support is present or available 24 hours a day. With WLZ living you rent your own studio from Darna Care, support comes to you and there is a 24-hour on-call service.
What does support cost?
Support is funded through the municipality (Wmo or Jeugdwet) or the Wet langdurige zorg (WLZ). For Wmo support, a personal contribution of no more than € 21,80 per month applies in 2026. Youth care is free of charge. With WLZ living, you pay the rent for your studio yourself. Read more at How it works.
How long does a support programme last?
That varies from person to person. We work with the 8-phase model, from registration to moving on, and we evaluate regularly.
What does culturally sensitive work mean at Darna Care?
That we connect with your background, language and family rather than with a standard protocol. Part of our team speaks Arabic or Turkish. It applies to everyone: a young person from Apeldoorn without a migration background also receives support that fits his or her world.
Who is my point of contact?
You get a fixed personal support worker. They know your situation, visit you and are your first point of contact. With WLZ living there is also a 24-hour on-call service.
Do you work together with my family or other care providers?
Yes, if you want us to. We take a systemic approach: with parents, carers, school, the neighbourhood team or youth protection. We only share information within the limits of privacy and with your consent.
I am not satisfied. Where can I go?
First discuss it with your support worker or coordinator. If that does not resolve it, you can follow our complaints procedure or contact the independent client confidential adviser of the VertrouwensUnie. See Quality and safety.
Can I do a work placement at Darna Care?
Yes. Darna Care is a recognised SBB training company. Placements are listed on Stagemarkt.nl and on our page Working at.
How do you handle my personal data?
In accordance with the GDPR and our privacy regulations. Your file is only accessible to those involved in your support. You may view your file at any time.
